Khergit Lancers can carry either a heavy lance, regular lance, or hafted blade as a primary weapon (and the hafted blade isn't a good weapon on horseback), while their secondary weapon is either a one-handed battle axe, a spiked mace, or heavy sabre. On the field, Mamlukes generally carry heavy lances as primary weapons and maces as secondaries which makes them effective against armored units and lets you take prisoners (though some carry cavalry swords and elite scimitars which are also good but won't let you take prisoners), and their stats are also higher.
